Personal Narrative
Access to heightened states via meditation, breathwork, psychedelics, or peak experiences.
Verbatim from Transpersonal Diagnostics™: Core Manual, 2025 edition (p. 6)
As described in the Core Manual: "Access to heightened states via meditation, breathwork, psychedelics, or peak experiences, including intuitive insight, time distortion, and expanded sense of reality."
This is a correction from an earlier draft of this page, which had swapped the Personal Narrative and Adjusted Cognition descriptions. Per the source manual, Personal Narrative names the territory of heightened, non-ordinary access — not autobiographical story, which belongs to Adjusted Cognition. Hold reports of time distortion or expanded reality descriptively, without treating intensity as proof of developmental attainment.
Observable indicators
Explore how the heightened state was accessed (meditation, breathwork, psychedelics, peak experience), and whether intuitive insight, time distortion or expanded reality accompanied it.
Language patterns
Attend to how the person tells their story, without imposing a preferred interpretation.
Somatic markers
Notice bodily responses only with consent; they are contextual observations, not diagnostic markers.
Emotional signatures
Curiosity, sadness or conflict may accompany personal reflection but do not define this territory.
Interventions
Explore meaning and identity
Begin with consent and the person's own account. Explore recurring stories, identity commitments and tensions between experience and self-description. Keep territory language tentative. Agree one realistic next step and check whether the conversation remains useful.
Not a validated intervention protocol. Stay within professional competence; pause and refer when safety or functioning is uncertain. Do not induce or intensify altered states.
